Aavegotchi Moves From Polygon to Base in Strategic Shift

By: Isha Das

Aavegotchi, the increasingly popular non-fungible token (NFT) protocol focused on the gaming sector, is set to undergo a significant transition. Following an overwhelming community vote, Aavegotchi will migrate its platform from the Polygon network to Base, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution. This move marks a major strategic decision for the platform, aimed at enhancing its growth and appeal among retail users.

The community vote titled 'Make Aavegotchi Based Again' saw a vast majority of 93.5% in favor, propelling this shift from Polygon to Base. The transition comes amidst an observed stagnation in the total value locked (TVL) growth on Polygon, which did not meet the community's expectations for the protocol's future expansion. On the other hand, Base presents several promising opportunities. It is anticipated to provide a robust infrastructure for Web3 gaming, a primary focus of Aavegotchi, thus appealing more to retail users who are crucial for its growth.

Aavegotchi's leadership, led by founder Dan, has expressed optimism about the transition to Base. They have pointed out not only Base's technical strengths but also the close collaboration between the Aavegotchi team and Base team as a strong reason for the migration. This collaborative ecosystem promises to offer enhanced scalability and efficiency, crucial for sustaining the momentum of NFT gaming applications.

This decision also involves the shuttering of Aavegotchi's layer-3 network, Geist. The Aavegotchi community is hopeful that aligning with Base will bring about a new cycle of innovation and expansion, ensuring Aavegotchi stays at the forefront of blockchain gaming and NFTs. This shift is strategically positioned to set Aavegotchi on a new path, positioning it as an elegant and scalable powerhouse within the burgeoning NFT and gaming market landscape.
