A fake Ledger Live application listed on Microsoft's trusted App Store has led to a significant crypto theft, executed by cunning hackers. The fraudulent code, designed by crypto thieves, was successful in swindling nearly $1 Million in cryptocurrency.
The thieves reportedly pilfered an amount equivalent to 16.8 Bitcoin (BTC) over one weekend. The nefarious operation was made possible by criminals exploiting the trust users have in official app platforms, in this case, Microsoft's App Store, to further their illicit gains.
This incident once again underscores the importance of heightened security measures in the rapidly expanding world of cryptocurrency. It calls for crypto software firms, like Ledger, and tech giants, such as Microsoft, to maintain a stringent scrutiny process to prevent such malicious occurrences.
