The Eigen Foundation, which operates the Ethereum restaking protocol known as EigenLayer, has announced the release of an additional 86 million EIGEN tokens. This distribution marks a significant phase for the protocol ahead of the token's eventual market debut.
The 86 million tokens, representing approximately 5% of the total supply, will be allocated to various stakeholders including stakers, node operators, ecosystem partners, and community members. This move is seen as part of an ongoing effort to incentivize active participation and ensure robust network security and functionality.
EigenLayer's restaking mechanism leverages Ethereum’s base layer, enhancing security and facilitating the deployment of new decentralized applications and services. The protocol’s ability to redistribute additional tokens is intended to encourage more participants to engage with the network, providing stability and expanding its user base.
By distributing these rewards, the Eigen Foundation aims to strengthen the community and build a more resilient infrastructure that can support a range of decentralized services. As these additional tokens begin circulating, the Ethereum ecosystem could see a corresponding increase in activity and innovation.
