Ethereum is commemorating its 10-year anniversary with a unique celebration and a forward-looking upgrade, a testament to its enduring innovation in the blockchain sector. Since its inception on July 30, 2015, Ethereum has established itself as a platform not only for digital currency but also as a foundation for decentralized applications, smart contracts, and a host of other blockchain solutions.
The Ethereum network recently introduced the ceremonial Ethereum Torch NFT to honor individuals and principles that have been instrumental in shaping its decentralized path. The Torch NFT is symbolically passed among community members, developers, and builders who have contributed to Ethereum’s success. This initiative was kicked off by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin and will culminate on July 30, 2025, when the NFT will be "burned" and replaced with a commemorative token available to the broader community.
Looking towards its technological future, Ethereum developers are preparing for the Fusaka upgrade, scheduled for release in November 2025. This upgrade follows closely on the heels of the Pectra fork and promises enhancements to scalability and network robustness. According to Tim Beiko of the Ethereum Foundation, the Fusaka upgrade will involve testing around 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). However, EIP-7907, which aimed at increasing the maximum smart contract size, has been excluded after considerable discussion within the developer community.
The Fusaka upgrade will see its Devnet-3 launch in July, with plans for two public testnets and early bug bounty programs. This upgrade is expected to take place between November 5 and 12, 2025, bringing significant changes aimed at efficiency and scalability. With eyes already on the next upgrade, Glamsterdam, slated for confirmation on August 1, the Ethereum community is clearly focusing on accelerating its development cycle to maintain its competitive edge.
The anticipated Holesky testnet is a crucial element in ensuring readiness for the Fusaka upgrade, providing developers the opportunity to evaluate the system's resilience under stress without major user interruptions. As Ethereum moves forward with these ambitious plans, it continues to set the bar for blockchain innovation, technological advancements, and community engagement by navigating both celebratory and challenging phases.
