Learn Concept: Understanding Bitcoin's Seven-Month Gain Streak and Market Liquidations

By: Isha Das

The recent behavior of Bitcoin shows a rare occurrence – a seven-month streak of gains hinting towards a potential bullish trend. This pattern of consistent increase over seven months is only the second instance of such performance in Bitcoin's history, the first happening in 2012. During both periods, the cryptocurrency's value experienced dramatic growth, indicating price appreciations of around 153% and 144% respectively. This pattern of value surge is worth studying for advanced crypto enthusiasts and traders.

However, sharp fluctuations are also observed during such periods. These include quick price surges followed by steep declines, leading to liquidations for those anticipating price drops. In a single 24-hour period, almost 86,047 traders faced losses exceeding $250 million due to unexpected price surge above $67,000. Major exchanges like Binance, OKX, Bybit, and Huobi saw most of these liquidations, with Binance accounting for the highest ($128.7 million).

The key takeaway from this trend is understanding that while bullish streaks can underline positive market momentum, they might also lead to significant volatility. This inherent volatility within cryptocurrency markets is challenging especially for short-term investors engaging in leveraged trading, thus understanding these dynamics is crucial.
