A staggering total of $364 million was lost to various exploits, hacks, and scams over the month, marking an astonishing increase of 1,163% compared to March's modest loss figure of under $29 million. This alarming spike is primarily attributed to a major incident involving the theft of 3,520 Bitcoin from an elderly U.S. individual, underlining the ongoing vulnerability faced by participants in the digital currency ecosystem.

The unprecedented heist stands as one of the largest ever recorded in the crypto space, contributing overwhelmingly to the losses reported in April. CertiK's analysis indicates that this specific attack, triggered through a phishing scheme, allowed the perpetrators to compromise a victim's digital wallet and siphon off millions worth of Bitcoin. This event underscores the continued sophistication of cyber threats targeting the blockchain industry and emphasizes the need for heightened security measures and awareness among users to safeguard their assets.

In addition to the significant loss incurred from this phishing scam, the month of April witnessed other exploits targeting crypto protocols.
