Metaplanet Surpasses 30,000 BTC to Become Fourth Largest Bitcoin Holder

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has dramatically expanded its Bitcoin holdings, reaching a milestone of over 30,000 BTC. This achievement places Metaplanet as the fourth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin worldwide, outstripping expectations and surpassing the Bitcoin Standard Treasury in the rankings. Recent acquisitions include a notable addition of 5,268 BTC, purchased at an average price of approximately $116,870 per coin, which amounts to a staggering $616 million investment.

The Tokyo-based company has demonstrated a sharp strategic focus on Bitcoin accumulation, having recently expanded its initial target of 10,000 BTC to a now-realized goal of over 30,000 BTC. The accumulation at an average cost of $107,912 per Bitcoin reflects Metaplanet’s aggressive yet calculated investment strategy. As a result, the company's total Bitcoin holding value now stands at approximately $3.6 billion.

Metaplanet's revenue saw substantial growth, with its Bitcoin Income Generation unit reporting an impressive leap of 115.7% in Q3 revenue compared to the previous quarter. The significant rise propelled the firm's full-year revenue forecast to nearly $46 million from an earlier projection of $23 million. This promising financial performance aligns with Metaplanet's broader objective to support further treasury expansion through a planned preferred share issuance.

The firm’s robust strategic and financial positioning has captured the attention of major international investors. Notably, Capital Group, a US asset management giant, recently became Metaplanet's largest shareholder, a move that highlights increasing institutional interest. Other institutional investors, including Vanguard and JPMorgan, also feature among the top stakeholders, underscoring Metaplanet's influence as a leading player in the corporate adoption of Bitcoin.
