In a landmark commitment, Microsoft is investing a monumental $3.2 billion to upgrade artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and training in the UK. This funding marks the most significant investment in the company's 40-year history in the UK, intended to boost the country's position in the global AI race.

Microsoft's plan focuses on three key areas: expanding AI infrastructure with the investment of $3.2 billion over the next three years, enhancing AI capabilities through training 1 million individuals in AI-centric skills, and improving AI security by implementing strict safety measures for developers and users of AI applications.

Microsoft's infrastructure expansion includes augmenting its advanced GPU facilities and plans to extend its data center sites across London, Cardiff, and potentially northern England. Furthermore, the company's intention to extend its Accelerating Foundation Models Research (AFMR) program to the UK will expedite AI-driven scientific discoveries across various sectors, including partnerships with top UK universities like Cambridge, Oxford, and Imperial College.
