At its core, a ZKP allows one party (the prover) to convince another party (the verifier) that a statement is true without revealing any information beyond the validity of the statement itself. This has significant implications for blockchain technology, as it can enable secure, private transactions and interactions.
Recent developments in ZKPs include the implementation of zk-SNARKs (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge) and zk-STARKs (Zero-Knowledge Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge). zk-SNARKs have been successfully integrated into blockchain projects like Zcash to ensure transactional privacy, while zk-STARKs aim to bring transparency and scalability improvements.
