UK Panel Calls for Moratorium On Crypto Donations to Political Parties

The UK Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy has recently called for an immediate halt on cryptocurrency donations to political parties, citing concerns about national security and potential foreign interference. A report published by the committee emphasizes the high-risk nature of crypto contributions, urging the government to implement clearer and stricter regulations to safeguard the political landscape from undue foreign influence.

The committee proposes an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill to establish a moratorium on crypto donations until the Electoral Commission can develop comprehensive statutory guidance. This guidance is expected to be ready ahead of the general election scheduled for 2029.
